A SPOT in the major semi-final is the prize on offer when Vixens and Wests Titans clash in the final round of the Illawarra A1 netball season at Fred Finch Park on Saturday afternoon.
Competition leaders Corrimal Cadets are two points clear at the top of the ladder. They take on lowly Woonona Menzies, so it would be a huge shock if they failed to clinch the minor premiership. But the right to take on Corrimal in next weekend's major semi-final is still up for grabs, with both Vixens and Titans on 22 competition points. The Titans suffered a 38-37 loss to Cadets in a thriller in last weekend's penultimate round.Corrimal led 10-8 at the first break, but Wests had jumped out to a 24-19 lead by half-time.That lead was cut to just one goal by three-quarter time, with the ladder leaders eventually coming home slightly the stronger of the two outfits.Defenders Marji Parr and Melinda Sharpe played a big part in the victory, coming on to shore up Corrimal's defence in the final two quarters. In last round's other games, Vixens crushed Woonona Menzies 55-25 and Wests Crunchies beat Corrimal Strikers 47-37.Crunchies, who take on cellar-dwellers Still Special on Saturday, have already secured the fourth spot.
