GAZAS Sportz seized the competition lead with just two rounds left in the Newcastle open netball championship with a crucial 34-31 victory over BNC Cricketers 1 on Saturday.

Gazas were second on 25 points, one behind BNC Cricketers 1, before the clash.

Gazas led 10-7 at the first break, 21-14 at half-time and 30-21 at the last change, then withstood a late challenge to emerge victorious.

Nags Head beat Junction Hotel 29-27, Mattara defeated Temperzone 31-23 and Hotel Delany won 38-32 against BNC Cricketers 2.
