MELBOURNE'S two National Netball League teams will line up in consecutive games tonight when the Kestrels take on the Perth Orioles and the top-of-the-table Phoenix face the Hunter Jaegers at the State Netball Hockey Centre.

Going into the double header, Sharelle McMahon, co-captain of Phoenix, says players in the national league already were getting anxious about their future in the new competition next year, in which the number of Australian teams will be cut to five to merge the competition with the New Zealand league.

"People are talking about and thinking about their future in elite netball, so it's always there in the back of their minds," she said. "We realise that if we play well together, then that will give us the best chance of being a part of it next year." -- SARAH-JANE COLLINS
