ILLAWARRA remain on top of the State League division five netball ladder after a narrow win over Blacktown in Sydney at the weekend.

The Goodman sisters - Lauren, Sarah and Stella - played a big part in the 55-52 victory. Injuries to defenders Amelia Brooks and Morgan Davies meant wing defence Lauren Goodman needed to step up, and she did to claim player-of-the-match honours from coach Kerry Jones.

She did a fine job combining with sister Sarah at centre to help get the ball down the court. Illawarra led by three at the first break but were down by two at half-time and still behind by two going into the final quarter.

But superb attack from goal shooter Stella Goodman and goal attack Susie Scott helped get Illawarra home.

Illawarra, who now face a tough assignment against third-placed Liverpool City, lead the ladder on for and against ahead of Wyong.

In State League division two, Illawarra pushed competition leaders Clubs NSWIS to the limit last week before going down, 44-41.
