THE Hunter Jaegers will learn their fate at 1pm today when Netball Australia reveals the format for the 2008 national netball competition.

Rumours of a trans-Tasman competition, which would likely exclude the Jaegers, emerged last month.

A New Zealand newspaper reported the competition would be a 10-team professional league comprising five teams from each country and would replace the existing domestic competition from next year.

The Australian teams believed to be favoured for the five spots were the Sydney Swifts, Queensland Firebirds, Adelaide Thunderbirds, Melbourne Phoenix and Perth Orioles, leaving out the AIS Canberra Darters, the Melbourne Kestrels and the Jaegers.

At the time, Netball NSW general manager Carolyn Campbell said her organisation would do everything in its power to get the Jaegers a start in the revamped competition, if it went ahead.
